Kids... a high yield investment!

”Adopt a School” are community initiatives that provide solutions to local schools and have a positive
impact  on the “whole” community.

Adopt a school initiatives can be a project of an individual group or organization or, as we suggest,
a coalition of local community stakeholders (churches, youth service organizations, businesses,
government, and community leaders)

Generous Community provides “Adopt a school” certification and mentor training:
Your organization is trained to provide within your capacity:

School Assessments
Coalition Building & Partnership Recruitment
Mentoring
Tutoring
Sports & Recreation
Leadership & Character Education, etc.

And short projects to include:
Landscaping
Food & clothing distribution
Internships
Job placement
Fundraising, social, and holiday events, etc.

Adopt a School Initiatives are equipped to support ALL Students. Normally students are divided by two behaviors
or circumstances: 1) “At Risk” and, 2) “Leadership Ready”

AT RISK FOCALS                                               LEADERSHIP READY FOCALS
Graduating on time                                              Entrepreneurship
Gang Activity                                                      Marketing
Directive Education & Abstinence                           Management

“When 2/3 of all teenagers old enough to graduate from high school are either dropping out [1/3] or incapable
of mastering college level work even if they do graduate [1/3], the nation is doing something awfully wrong.”

Allan C. Golston, President of U.S. Programs
Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

“Because student morale & performance are negatively affected by missed opportunities of available services
and resources, due to circumstances of public policy and government funding, we have an opportunity as a
local community to make a tremendous impact. "

Shannon Wilson, High School Teacher & parent of (3).

Because our children are turning to gangs for their support system and the visible decay of our communities
is becoming more and more apparent, it is time to try something different!”

CJ Blair, Founder C.O.F.A.T & former gang member

JOINT STATEMENT ON THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF “A NATION AT RISK”

WASHINGTON (April 26, 2008) – As we mark the 25th anniversary of “A Nation at Risk,” the spotlight is shining everywhere except where it is most needed. We need a clear-eyed accounting of the progress our schools and students have made over the past 25 years, and we need an honest assessment of the unfinished work required to protect the prospects of our young people and our nation into the future.

Instead of purposeful evaluation and planning, one group of commentators is furiously debating whether the Commission got it right when it claimed that the "tide of mediocrity" was getting “higher” back in 1983, as opposed to merely “high.” Meanwhile, another group argues that without fully and finally eliminating all of the outside-of-school challenges in children's lives, better schools won't make much of a difference.
